We have the answer! It's because with a Black
Hole, you know it sucks up front before you
buy!
But what is a
black hole? In general relativity, a black
hole is a region of space in which the
gravity well is so deep that gravitational
time dilation halts time completely forming
an event horizon.
Imagine owning
property where time has stopped! Never have
to paint again!
The event
horizon, is a one-way surface into which
objects can fall, but out of which nothing
can appear. Now that's privacy!
It is called
"black" because it absorbs all the light
that hits it, reflecting nothing, just like
a perfect black body in thermodynamics.
That means it never fades like those Chinese
made Brown Holes! Quantum analysis of
black holes shows them to possess a
temperature and Hawking radiation (don't
worry, this is good for cooking Turkeys).
Despite its invisible interior, a black hole
can reveal its presence through interaction
with other matter; which means you can
always find your way home. A black hole can
be inferred by tracking the movement of a
group of stars that orbit a region in space
which looks empty - sneaky huh?.
Alternatively, one can see gas falling into
a relatively small black hole, from a
companion star.

Once you own a
black hole, you don't need to travel to see
the universe - it comes to see you!
The first large black holes in the universe likely
formed and grew deep inside gigantic,
star-like cocoons that smothered their
powerful x-ray radiation and prevented
surrounding gases from being blown away.
The formation process involved two stages: The
predecessors to black hole formation,
objects called supermassive stars, probably
started forming within the first few hundred
million years after the Big Bang some 14
billion years ago. A supermassive star
eventually would have grown to a huge size -
as much as tens of millions of times the
mass of our sun Sol - and would have been
short-lived, with its core collapsing in
just in few million years.
It's calculated how supermassive stars might have
formed, as well as the masses of their
cores. These calculations allowed modern
scientists to estimate their subsequent size
and evolution, including how they ultimately
left behind "seed" black holes.
The hydrogen-burning supermassive stars would had to
have been stabilized by their own rotation
or some other form of energy, such as
magnetic fields or turbulence, in order to
facilitate the speedy growth of black holes
at their centers. What's new now is that
scientists think we have found a new
mechanism to form these giant supermassive
stars, which gives us a new way of
understanding how big black holes may have
formed relatively fast.
The main requirement for the formation of
supermassive stars is the accumulation of
matter at a rate of about one solar mass per
year - that means they eat the mass equal to
our sun every year. Because of the
tremendous amount of matter consumed by
supermassive stars, subsequent seed black
holes that formed in their centers may have
started out much bigger than ordinary black
holes -- which are the mass of only a few
Earth suns - and subsequently grew much
faster.
After the seed black holes formed, the
process entered its second stage, which is
called the "quasistar" stage. In this phase,
black holes grew rapidly by swallowing
matter from the bloated envelope of gas
surrounding them, which eventually inflated
to a size as large as Earth's solar system
and cooled at the same time.
